Extension ID Finder

Paste a Chrome Web Store link and read the 32-character extension ID straight out of it. Works with current and legacy store URLs, query strings and hashes.

Tool

Paste the extension\'s store URL. A bare 32-character ID is also accepted.

Waiting for a Chrome Web Store link.

How to use

  1. Open the extension's page in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Copy the address bar URL.
  3. Paste it below. The ID is detected as you type and appears immediately.
  4. Select "Copy ID" to put it on your clipboard, then use the downloader to fetch the CRX package.

How it works

Your input is parsed with the browser's own URL parser, so query strings such as ?hl=en, fragments such as #details, trailing slashes and surrounding whitespace are all handled without special-casing.

Chrome Web Store links put the ID in the path. The current shape is /detail/<name>/<id>, and /detail/<id> also works. The older chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/... host is still live and redirects, so it is accepted too.

The candidate segment is tested against the extension ID format: exactly 32 characters, letters a to p only. Nothing is looked up on a server, so an ID is only ever reported when it was genuinely extracted from a valid store URL structure or supplied directly.

Important limitations

  • This tool reads the ID from the URL. It does not contact the Chrome Web Store, so it cannot tell you whether an extension still exists, is published, or is available for download.
  • Store URLs that omit the ID entirely, such as a link to the store homepage, contain nothing to extract and are rejected.
  • Some in-page links and redirects expose only the extension name rather than the ID. Those cannot be resolved without contacting Google, which this tool deliberately does not do.

Privacy and security

This tool runs entirely in your browser and makes no network requests at all. The link you paste is parsed locally and never sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find an extension ID in Chrome itself?

Open the extension's details page in chrome://extensions, or open the Web Store page and look at the end of the address bar URL. The ID is always the last path segment on a store link. The guide on finding extension IDs walks through the other reliable methods.

Why is my ID rejected when it looks right?

Extension IDs use only the letters a to p, because the extension system maps a 128-bit number into base-16 letters and only a–p fall in that range. A 32-character string containing a q or a digit is not a valid extension ID, which is usually a sign that something else was copied.

Does the older chrome.google.com link still work?

Yes. chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/... still redirects to the current store host rather than returning an error, and this tool accepts both. The ID is in the same place in either case.

What can I do with an extension ID?

Two things on this site: request a CRX download with the Chrome Extension Downloader, and check whether an ID looks valid at all. An ID on its own tells you nothing about an extension's behaviour — for that you need its manifest.
